Aspire's Children Party at the Zoo
Does watching lady bugs crawl from toes to fingers and fly away or petting small furry creatures sound like your child’s dream party?
On Tuesday, July 21, 2009, children of Aspire and their families gathered after hours at Brookfield Zoo for games, crafts, a picnic dinner and fun with animals. Various stations at Hamill Family Zoo encouraged children to touch, explore and create, fostering growth and a connection with nature using play.
“What is so unique and special about this event is the integration of learning and stimulation for each child while they’re at play with friends and zoo staff,” says Kathy Ruffulo, Vice President of Children’s Services. “It’s amazing to see all the families at the zoo, how far they’ve come, and having so much fun!”
Activities ranged from animal yoga, where children transformed and stretched their bodies into the shapes of zoo animals, to a bug hunt, stimulating and challenging all of the senses, to face painting, where youngsters practiced fine motor skills while drawing on others faces. The evening came to a close in the Pavilion with a summertime picnic dinner and children splashing in nearby fountains.
Party at the Zoo was generously presented by the Chicago Zoological Society Women’s Board. A special thank you goes out to Chicago Zoological Society Women’s Board for inviting Aspire families to Party at the Zoo for the third consecutive year.
